& Fire Safety
Hazardous materials that are tossed into trash or recycling containers can spark dangerous truck fires. Each year, the waste and recycling industry sees a growing number of these incidents. Improper disposal directly fuels the surge in truck fires across the industry.
The following hazardous items must never be placed in your trash bags, recycling, or Frontier Waste carts.
- Batteries of any kind
- Lithium batteries commonly found in:
- E-bikes or Toys
- Rechargeable household batteries
- Power tools
- Cell phones or Laptops
- Chemicals (household or commercial)
- Pool chemicals
- Helium, Propane, or Oxygen tanks of any size
- Household solvents
- Wet paint products
- Automotive batteries or car parts
- Household insecticides
- Outdoor insecticides and fertilizer
- Lamps
These items can often be taken to a household hazardous waste facility or designated drop-off location. Availability varies by area, so be sure to check your local guidelines for proper disposal. These materials can react, ignite, and create serious safety risks during collection.
Never place hot coals or hot/used fireworks in your trash or recycling carts. Soak them in water for 24–48 hours before placing them in a securely tied bag and disposing of them in your trash cart only. These materials can react, ignite, melt collection carts, and start fires during collection if not disposed of properly.
