The Big L Fire burned 10,177 acres along the Hood–Erath county line between Bluff Dale and Lipan in March 2022, and six homes were lost, NOAA’s records show. Before clearing land outside town, weigh three options:
Burn it on site. Hood County’s Fire Marshal allows only dry plant growth cut on the property itself. Lumber of any kind, construction debris, tires and household trash are banned from the fire, and since September 1, 2009, the Fire Marshal’s page says, a violation can be charged up to a Class A misdemeanor.
Haul it to the County Brush Yard. Hood County lists the yard at 1510 Weatherford Highway in Granbury, open Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to noon; its rules take brush, limbs and logs up to 15 inches across and 16 feet long, but no lumber, furniture, appliances or stumps with root balls.
