Garland's curb has a 40-pound rule
Garland Sanitation collects brush and bulky goods every week on trash day, but it leaves behind any single item over 40 pounds, and its crews never pick up masonry, asphalt, concrete, rocks, dirt, tires, pallets or roofing at the curb. Construction debris is collected only from residents who remodeled their own property, and only if it’s bagged, boxed or bundled, no more than four times a calendar year (City Code Section 52.25).
Section 52.30 goes further. Debris from a major renovation project can’t be set out for collection anywhere in the city, and when large amounts of trees and brush are cleared to build a house, the builder, owner or occupant has to remove them at their own expense. Residents can still haul bulky loads to the City’s Transfer Station or the C.M. Hinton Jr. Regional Landfill at no cost with a driver’s license and a current utility bill. For a gutted kitchen or a new build, plan on a dumpster for major renovation debris.

December 26, 2015, and the May 2024 cleanup
On December 26, 2015, according to the National Weather Service, a tornado with estimated peak winds of 170 to 180 mph cut a 13-mile path from Sunnyvale to Lake Ray Hubbard between 6:45 and 7:02 p.m. The NWS survey rated it EF-4, with EF-4 damage in Garland and EF-3 damage in Rowlett.
Garland’s cleanup after the May 2024 storm shows how the City splits the work. Its debris notice asked residents to keep storm debris apart from household garbage, stack it behind the curb in separate piles and keep travel lanes open. The same notice said contractors hired by homeowners for repair or demolition are required to remove and dispose of that debris themselves. For a re-roof, that means a dumpster sized for the tear-off, and Frontier lists the 20-yard for roofing.
Where Garland's $360 million bond is going
Garland voters approved the Grow Garland Bond Program in May 2025, which the City says authorizes $360 million in general obligation bonds. The City’s breakdown puts $230 million into street and alley improvements and corridor beautification, $75 million into economic development such as land assembly and revitalization, $25 million into renovating the Granville Arts Center and $30 million into waterfront access and trails aimed at Harbor Point. The City expects the projects to run over multiple years.
Street rebuilding and renovation on that scale will produce concrete, asphalt and demolition debris. Heavy material belongs in the 20-yard, which Frontier recommends for concrete and bricks, while demolition and large construction jobs move up to the 40. If you’re unsure, here’s how the 20, 30 and 40-yard compare.
A free drop-off for household chemicals
Paint, propane tanks and other household chemicals don’t belong in a Garland bulky pile. The City sends residents to the Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center at 11234 Plano Road and says the service is free for Garland residents. Tires are another one, and Garland’s own guidelines send them to a local tire shop. Our containers can’t take those items either. Here’s the full list of what we won’t haul.

Why Choose Frontier Waste Solutions?
Improved efficiency
One benefit of a roll-off dumpster is that it allows you to dispose of large amounts of waste in one go. This can be very useful for businesses, real estate cleanouts, storm clean-up, or even roofing waste, in which roll-off containers are used all the time.
One of the biggest challenges in the construction industry is waste removal, especially when construction sites often have hundreds of tons of waste being generated on-site. This can include actual debris from construction or sometimes even large volumes of dirt from excavations.
A roll-off dumpster is used to remove large amounts of waste from construction sites and ensure that it’s all taken away before becoming a hazard from over-clutter and becoming an unavoidable obstacle.
Increased safety
Safety is a top priority for any business. When it comes to dealing with waste, you want to be sure that your workers are not putting themselves at risk. That’s why having a roll-off dumpster on site is so important. The dumpster itself is not only large enough to hold all of the waste materials from your project but also heavy enough to ensure that it won’t topple over when in motion.
Another safety benefit of dumping your trash in a roll-off dumpster is not worrying about city restrictions or debris blowing out while en route to the dump. Once you put your trash into a dumpster, trained professionals will pick it up and haul it away with no effort at all.
Custom solutions to meet your needs
Roll-off dumpsters can be customized to your needs. This means you can choose the size and frequency of pickups to suit your needs. Whether moving an impossibly large volume of items from an estate cleanout or the waste generated from a home improvement project, you can choose the roll-off dumpster in Garland that’s perfect for what you need.
Working with Frontier Waste technicians in Garland is the best way to get started planning your waste disposal. We can determine what kind of container would work best for your project. Our technicians will streamline the cost of your disposal based on the material you are disposing of and the size of your project.
Versatility
There are many different uses for the roll-off dumpster, which is ideal for almost any project.
- Dispose of old furniture or other household items that are no longer needed.
- Home renovations and roofing projects.
- Building a new house from scratch.
- Perfect for every corporate and commercial construction project.

Garland dumpster rental questions
Does a dumpster company need City approval to work in Garland?
Yes. Under Section 52.39 of Garland's code, collecting solid waste, landscape waste, bulky waste or recyclables in the city without a franchise agreement is unlawful, and the City advises customers to confirm their hauler's agreement is active. Frontier Waste Solutions appears on the City's list of approved franchise haulers. Call (888) 854-2905 to book a roll-off.
Will Garland's bulky pickup take my remodeling debris?
Some of it, if you did the work yourself on your own property. Garland Sanitation takes bagged, boxed or bundled construction debris up to four times a calendar year, with each piece no heavier than 40 pounds. Roofing, masonry and concrete never go at the curb, and debris from a major renovation can't be set out at all. Everything past that goes in a roll-off.
Is a roll-off allowed on a Garland street?
Count on the driveway instead. Garland's code lets the Director of Engineering grant a license for a minor or temporary encroachment into a street or alley (Section 31.117), but that's at the Director's discretion. A driveway needs a hard, flat surface and room for the truck to back straight in with nothing hanging low overhead, so mention trees, wires or a tight alley when you call (888) 854-2905.
