Frontier collects McKinney's trash and recycling under the city's contract, and under Section 86-33(c) of the city's solid waste chapter the designated contractor is the exclusive provider of collection in the service area. For a business account or a temporary roll-off on a construction job, the City points commercial customers and construction sites to Frontier. Containers run 20, 30 and 40 yards for remodels, tear-offs, build-outs and lot clearing.

How a Frontier drop works

  1. 1

    Tell us the job

What’s going in the container, and where it has to sit.

  2. 2

    Get the right size

Heavy debris like shingles and concrete goes in a smaller box. Bulky junk goes in a bigger one.

  3. 3

    We set it down

On firm, level ground with a clear approach for the truck.

  4. 4

    Call when it’s full

We haul it away and handle the disposal.

Twelve bulky pickups a year, and the one thing they exclude

A McKinney household gets bulky item collection up to twelve times a year at no extra cost, by appointment requested before noon the business day before. The pile has to fit inside 3.5 feet tall by 3 feet deep by 9 feet long, or amount to two large household pieces.

Then comes the line that sends most of our McKinney calls our way: materials resulting from construction, demolition or remodeling projects are not accepted in bulky collection at all. Neither are treated wood or fence panels, tires, pallets, or trash bags regardless of what is inside them. Yard waste runs on its own weekly truck, capping limbs at four-foot lengths and six inches of branch diameter, in bundles of 50 pounds or less, ten items total. The city also notes that limbs cut by anyone other than the resident are not eligible for that service, which quietly rules out whatever a tree crew leaves behind.

A roll-off container exists for exactly that gap.

Remodel debris on the driveway?

Downtown cannot put construction debris in the shared enclosures

Businesses in the Downtown Business District share carts and dumpster enclosures, and the rules around them are stricter than most owners expect. Section 86-31(g) makes it unlawful to use a downtown container or enclosure without maintaining a current collection account with the City. Section 86-31(h) goes further and makes it unlawful to place construction or demolition waste in any of those containers or enclosures, and that holds even for a business with an active downtown account. Section 86-31(f) also prohibits leaving material outside, beside or on top of a downtown receptacle, which rules out stacking it alongside overnight.

So a storefront build-out on the square has to move its debris through a separate container. Away from downtown, the City requires non-residential and multi-family properties to keep commercial containers in a fully screened enclosure under Section 206D of the Unified Development Code, with grease barrels and pallets stored separately. Demolition and tear-out jobs usually need a container of their own for both reasons.

Recycling is the part that stays open. Section 86-35 issues Private Hauler and Generator permits for collecting commercial recyclable material, and those permits expire at the end of each calendar year. City residential service has its own boundary worth knowing: it is limited to customers inside the city limits with a water billing account in good standing, so an address in the ETJ such as Trinity Falls does not qualify. Outside the city limits we serve homes, acreage and job sites directly, the same way we do around Celina.

A terminal, an amphitheater, and half a billion in utility work

McKinney broke ground on a commercial passenger terminal at McKinney National Airport in July 2025, with four gates, onsite car rental and a 980-space public parking lot, and named its first airline partner that December. The 20,000-seat Sunset Amphitheater, a $300 million project, broke ground in June 2025. The Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library closed in June 2025 for a $20 million renovation, and Baylor Scott and White Medical Center McKinney is adding seventh and eighth floors of up to 84,000 square feet.

Underneath all of it sits a capital improvements program of roughly $500 million across fiscal years 2025 through 2029, largely water lines, utility relocations and aging infrastructure. Work at that scale runs on 30 and 40-yard containers through framing and finish-out, then settles into a weekly bin once a tenant opens the doors, which is where a scheduled business container takes over. McKinney reached 236,001 residents in the 2025 estimate against 195,308 in the 2020 census, the steepest growth on our North Texas list.

What the March 2025 wind event left behind

On March 4, 2025, estimated 65 mph gusts destroyed a mobile home near Highway 380 and Private Road 5461 in McKinney, with two minor injuries and $30,000 in property damage. The same storm tore major roof damage into a large commercial warehouse in the 900 block of South Airport Drive, damaged a commercial building at Kentucky and McCauley, and snapped or uprooted trees across Town Lake Park, all recorded in NOAA's storm database.

Three weeks later, on March 25, half-dollar hail fell at Lake Forest and US 380 and ping-pong-ball hail at Hardin and Eldorado. Hail that size takes a roof, and a torn-off roof is a container's worth of shingles and decking before the crew reaches the felt. McKinney is one of the Texas cities we collect for under contract.

McKinney dumpster rental questions

Is Frontier McKinney's trash company?

Yes. Frontier collects the city's residential and commercial solid waste and recycling under its contract with the City of McKinney, and Section 86-33(c) of the city code makes the designated contractor the exclusive provider of collection in the service area. For a business account or a construction roll-off, send the details through our quote form.

Can I put remodeling debris out with my bulky item pickup?

No. McKinney excludes materials resulting from construction, demolition or remodeling projects from bulky item collection, along with treated wood, fence panels, pallets and tires. That material needs a container of its own.

Does my downtown business account cover a build-out?

It does not. Section 86-31(h) makes it unlawful to place construction or demolition waste in a Downtown Business District container or enclosure even when the business holds a current collection account, and Section 86-31(f) prohibits leaving material beside or on top of one. A separate roll-off is the way through it.
