City code counts a roll-off as a commercial container (Section 66.076), and Section 66.085 makes it unlawful for a hauler to place one on any city or state street, alley, road or highway right-of-way inside the city. Plan for the driveway, a side yard or a parking lot. The truck needs firm, level ground, about 60 feet to line up and 21 feet of clearance overhead, so look for low branches and power lines before delivery day.

When the San Marcos River rises
On Memorial Day weekend 2015, heavy rain upstream sent a surge down the river into San Marcos. The San Marcos River crested at 43.08 feet at 5:15 a.m. on May 24, according to the National Weather Service. Flood cleanup means wet drywall, carpet, cabinets and furniture coming out fast. On our size cards, large home renovation projects fall under the 30-yard.

San Marcos and Hays County residents can take household hazardous waste to the drop-off at 634 E. Hopkins Street. It’s open Fridays from noon to 3:30 and Saturdays from 8 to noon, and takes up to 300 pounds per vehicle per day. It doesn’t accept tires, appliances or business waste. If you live on the Guadalupe County side of town, note that the drop-off is limited to San Marcos and Hays County residents. Tires and undrained appliances can’t go in our containers either.
