The Handbook of Texas traces Dickinson to a settlement on Dickinson’s Bayou shortly before 1850, named for John Dickinson, who received a Mexican land grant in 1824. Inside today’s city limits, Frontier serves businesses, with scheduled commercial bin pickups and roll-offs for contractors and commercial work. In the unincorporated communities nearby, San Leon and Bacliff among them, we take every kind of customer, with 20, 30 and 40-yard containers sized for storm cleanups, re-roofs and remodels.

How a Frontier drop works

  1. 1

    Tell us the job

What’s going in the container, and where it has to sit.

  2. 2

    Get the right size

Heavy debris like shingles and concrete goes in a smaller box. Bulky junk goes in a bigger one.

  3. 3

    We set it down

On firm, level ground with a clear approach for the truck.

  4. 4

    Call when it’s full

Dickinson Bayou in 2017, a debris pass in 2024

Harvey put Dickinson Bayou over its banks. NOAA’s storm records describe major flooding along the bayou from Cemetery Road to east of Highway 3 along FM 517, water rescues in League City and Dickinson, and about 7,000 homes and 125 businesses reached by floodwater across Galveston County in late August 2017. After Hurricane Beryl, the City’s debris contractors picked up 861 loads, 47,343 cubic yards of limbs and other vegetation, between July 24 and August 9, 2024, and scheduled a second pass, starting August 12, for storm-damaged fences, shingles, lumber and furniture, the City Manager’s newsletter reported.

That cleanup covered the city’s own streets. A Dickinson business clearing storm damage can order a 40-yard, which lists storm debris on its card, and so can anyone in San Leon or Bacliff hauling out limbs and fence boards. Stripping a flooded house out there has its own page: a gut-out container for flooded homes.

Homes and lots in San Leon and Bacliff

San Leon and Bacliff are census-designated places rather than cities, which puts them in unincorporated Galveston County, according to the Census Bureau’s geocoder. Each has its own utility district arranging household trash. San Leon’s district moved to a new contracted hauler in September 2024. The Bacliff district’s trash page lists construction debris among what curbside pickup won’t take, along with tires, paint, liquids, hazardous materials and anything with a coolant device. A re-roof, a remodel or a cleared lot needs a container.

High water has reached both communities. NOAA’s storm records note coastal flooding in San Leon during Tropical Storm Beta in September 2020, and floodwater inside at least 25 structures, many in the Bacliff Villas subdivision, after heavy rain on June 4, 2021. On March 24, 2025, thunderstorm winds peeled siding and part of the metal roof off a manufactured home in San Leon, the same records show. Paint, propane and batteries can’t ride in our roll-offs either; see the materials banned from Frontier’s containers.

Burning brush around Dickinson

Inside the city, Section 7-51 of Dickinson’s code forbids burning grass, trash and rubbish, and it counts tree loppings and branches as trash; the exceptions cover things like cooking fires and permitted land clearing. After Beryl, the City’s newsletter announced fee-free permits from July 26 to August 26, 2024 for burning storm vegetation only. The unincorporated county runs on its own orders. On August 17, 2026, Galveston County Commissioners Court banned outdoor burning in every unincorporated area through November 15, 2026 unless it’s lifted sooner, and the County’s emergency management office listed the ban as in effect on October 7, 2026. While the ban holds, brush from a San Leon or Bacliff lot has to go another way; the 40-yard card lists large landscaping.

An EF1 from Hughes Road to the bay

A National Weather Service survey, summarized in NOAA’s storm records, found that the December 28, 2024 tornado touched down near Hughes Road between I-45 and Highway 3, crossed FM 517 and Highway 146, and moved out over Galveston Bay near Bayshore Park. Most of its damage rated EF0, with winds of 60 to 80 mph, though a few homes east of Dickinson High School took EF1 damage at up to 90 mph, the same survey found. Hail comes through too: on May 31, 2024, NOAA’s records show hen-egg-size stones reported 2.5 miles west-southwest of Dickinson and baseball-size hail collected around the NWS forecast office about two miles west. Torn shingles and decking belong in a roofing container for tornado and hail jobs.

Dickinson dumpster rental questions

Will Frontier place a roll-off inside Dickinson's city limits?

For a business, a contractor or a commercial job site, yes, and companies in the city can set up a commercial bin with us too. Homes and lots past the city line, San Leon and Bacliff included, can book our containers as well. If yours sits near the line, call (936) 258-9035 and we'll check it with you first. Frontier does run city collection elsewhere in the region; Pasadena's trash and recycling schedule is one example.

Where does used cooking oil go in Dickinson?

To the free Cease the Grease station on 45th Street between Highway 3 and St. Goar Street, near the gazebo. The water district's garbage guidelines (updated January 29, 2024) say it's open around the clock and provided by the Galveston Bay Foundation. The same guidelines point to Texas City's Biosphere 1 Recycling Center, at 3301 Loop 197 North, which takes used motor oil, cardboard, aluminum, steel, glass and #1 and #2 plastics at no charge.

Can a business in Dickinson, San Leon or Bacliff get a regular dumpster?

Yes. Inside Dickinson's city limits, a shop or restaurant can set up container service with us, and in San Leon and Bacliff, where both utility districts' trash pages describe household pickup, businesses arrange their own. Our bins run from 2 to 8 yards, with pickup up to six times a week, and a lid lock or gravity bar can be added to stop unwanted dumping. Call (936) 258-9035.
