A dumpster before the first nail
Lakeway’s building code spells out what a job site needs. Division 6 of Article 24.02, “Requirements During Construction,” sets these rules:
1. A commercial dumpster first. Section 24.02.208 makes the permit applicant provide one commercial dumpster on each site before any construction starts, and keep it emptied promptly once it’s full.
2. Fencing that holds debris. Section 24.02.201 requires construction fencing that keeps workers off neighboring property and contains debris and trash.
3. Nothing stored on the street. Section 24.02.203 keeps building materials inside the lot lines and bars storing materials or equipment on any public street.
4. Brush within 48 hours. Section 24.02.208 also gives cut brush 48 hours to be hauled off or mulched, with mulch spread no deeper than 18 inches and kept 5 feet from structures, and it bans burning construction material anywhere in the city.
Builders can line up the roll-off we set on Lakeway job sites along with the permit; large construction and landscaping are on the 40-yard card.

Below 676 feet: clearing the exposed lakebed
Low water opens up its own kind of work. When Lake Travis falls below 676 feet above mean sea level, the Lower Colorado River Authority lets property owners on the lake clear debris such as tree trunks from around boat docks and retaining walls, and repair existing walls and bulkheads, under its lakewide permits from the Army Corps of Engineers. Clearing that disturbs lakebed sediment needs a written notification to LCRA first, under the Highland Lakes Dredge and Fill Ordinance in effect since January 1, 2022, though mowing, shredding and chainsawing need none. LCRA’s disposal guidance is plain: burn nothing in the lakebed, and take every bit of cleared vegetation out and dispose of it properly rather than leaving it or pushing it into the lake. A 40-yard parked on firm ground above the shoreline takes the brush. Shoreline contractors working in Lakeway, and owners of lakefront lots outside the city, can check our roll-off size chart before the first load.
When Lake Travis crested at 704.3 feet
High water brings the opposite job. NOAA’s Storm Events Database says Lake Travis rose into its flood pool at 681 feet on October 16, 2018 and reached 704.3 feet on October 19, while the LCRA opened as many as eight floodgates on Mansfield Dam to bring the level down. That NOAA entry also reports nearly 100 homes in and around the Lake Travis area with major damage and 76 more with minor damage. LCRA’s dredge-and-fill page notes that removing flood debris or trash that isn’t embedded in or attached to land below the lake’s regulated pool doesn’t count as dredging. Soaked drywall, carpet and broken dock boards fill a container fast, and storm debris and remodeling are both on the 40-yard card.
Roofs and marinas in the 2014 and 2017 storms
Wind has done its share of damage here. On the evening of June 12, 2014, NOAA’s records show, a thunderstorm with gusts estimated at 85 mph or more tore the roofs off two houses northeast of the Lakeway airport, blew a front porch into another yard and dropped large trees onto homes, with debris found several streets away. On the morning of April 2, 2017, a squall line crossed Lake Travis: NOAA lists roof and chimney damage to houses on and near Costa Bella Drive, marinas and a floating restaurant damaged by winds estimated as high as 80 mph, and a brief EF0 tornado that crossed the lake as a waterspout near Bee Creek, heading toward Point Venture. Roofers taking on that kind of repair work can reserve tear-off roll-offs for Lake Travis re-roofs; the 20-yard card lists roofing.
Lakeway dumpster rental questions
What hours can a roll-off be delivered in Lakeway?
Lakeway's building code, in Section 24.02.202, allows construction operations that make noise, deliveries of materials and equipment included, only from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends. Plan drop-offs and swaps inside those windows, on a hard, flat spot where our truck gets a 60-foot run to back in and 21 feet free overhead.
Which areas around Lakeway count as outside city limits?
Hudson Bend is a census-designated place, which the Census Bureau defines as a named community that isn't legally incorporated, so homes and lots there can book any of our containers, as can other unincorporated parts of Travis County. The Hills, Bee Cave, Briarcliff and Point Venture are incorporated in their own right, by the Census Bureau's Vintage 2025 estimates, so in those places, as in Lakeway, we work with businesses and contractors.
Does Frontier pick up household trash in Lakeway?
No. Inside the city limits, household carts run through the City's Solid Waste Department. In Lakeway we work with businesses along the RM 620 corridor and with builders and contractors on permitted jobs. Frontier's Austin-area service page lists Lake Travis among the places we reach, and in the unincorporated areas past Lakeway's limits, any home or lot can book a container.
