Converse takes its name from a Major Converse, the Southern Pacific Railroad’s chief engineer, who bought the townsite land in 1877, according to the Handbook of Texas. Today it’s a suburb in northeastern Bexar County. Within the city limits, our bins and roll-offs go to shops, offices, builders and commercial jobs. Out in unincorporated Bexar County, homeowners and landowners can order any of our three roll-off sizes too: phone (210) 807-8555.

How a Frontier drop works

  1. 1

    Tell us the job

What’s going in the container, and where it has to sit.

  2. 2

    Get the right size

Heavy debris like shingles and concrete goes in a smaller box. Bulky junk goes in a bigger one.

  3. 3

    We set it down

On firm, level ground with a clear approach for the truck.

  4. 4

    Call when it’s full

We haul it away and handle the disposal.

A 78109 address isn't always Converse

The Census Bureau’s Vintage 2025 estimates count 32,481 people in Converse on July 1, 2025, yet the City’s utility billing page warns that it doesn’t serve every address in the 78109 area. Three clues from the City’s own pages:

The bill test. “If you do not receive a City of Converse water/garbage bill, then you are not within Converse city limits,” the brush pickup page says.

Outside the line. The same page places the Dover, Meadow Brook and Spring Meadows subdivisions outside the city, apart from the houses on Nature Trail at the front of Dover.

Annexed and inside. The billing page lists Knox Ridge, Notting Hill, Quiet Creek and Summerhill among the annexed subdivisions that get City garbage and recycling.

Past the city line, homes, lots and job sites can all book a roll-off, part of the rural and business service we run across greater San Antonio. In Schertz, Selma, Universal City and St. Hedwig, Frontier is each city’s municipal hauler, and Schertz’s pickup calendars and route maps are on our site.

Converse's rules for business trash in public view

Chapter 36 of the City code is mostly about what can be seen from the street, and Section 36-4 sets the rules for business lots. A dumpster may stand in public view as long as the garbage goes inside it; cans and bags can’t sit in view beside or around it except from 8 p.m. the night before pickup until 8 p.m. on pickup day. Broken furniture and appliances, scrap lumber and construction debris from a business must go in a dumpster or stay out of sight, and the section adds that covering them with a tarp doesn’t count. Under the same section, the City doesn’t normally provide brush pickup to businesses, and a business that hires its own hauler has 96 hours to get the brush out of public view. For the everyday trash, small-business dumpster service on a set schedule puts a 2 to 8-yard bin on the lot, with a lid lock or gravity bar lock if you want one; a roll-off takes the lumber and limbs.

Downed trees and hail on Converse streets

NOAA’s Storm Events Database pins several Converse storms to the street. On April 7, 2019, an emergency manager’s report in that database put gusts at an estimated 70 mph when trees came down at Montgomery Drive and Glen Terrace. On July 30, 2017, gusts the same database estimates at 65 mph blew a large tree onto a house in Converse. Quarter-size hail fell in the city on March 21, 2022 and again on March 2, 2023, according to the same records, and on May 3, 2021 a public report put quarter-size hail at Graytown Road just northeast of FM 1604. Flash flooding on November 22, 2014 reached two rooms of a house in Converse, and the homeowner called it the worst flooding they had seen in years, NOAA’s entry says.

Contractors cleaning up inside the city, and property owners outside it, can call for our 40-yard, which our size card recommends for storm debris. Roofing contractors can book roof-debris roll-offs by the job.

Converse dumpster rental questions

Does Frontier pick up household trash inside Converse?

No. Homes inside the city limits get their carts through the City's own garbage and recycling contract, and the City's collection notice sends schedule questions to its Utility Billing Department at 210-658-1965. Inside Converse, our bins and roll-offs go to companies, contractors and their job sites; beyond the city limits, any household can book a roll-off from us.

Can I burn brush on property outside Converse?

Check with the County first. On October 7, 2026, the Bexar County Fire Marshal's page announced a 90-day burn ban, approved by Commissioners Court, for unincorporated Bexar County, and the County's burn brochure says all burning is prohibited during countywide bans. When burning is allowed, the brochure limits land-clearing fires to brush from that property when no practical alternative exists, requires 300 feet of distance from homes, businesses and livestock buildings on neighboring land (or a spot downwind of them) unless those neighbors agree in writing, and bans burning treated construction waste. A 40-yard roll-off, listed on our size card for large landscaping, is the alternative.

Where do paint, batteries and other chemicals go?

To a free home pickup. The City of Converse says residents of Bexar County's suburban cities and unincorporated areas qualify for household hazardous waste collection at the door; call the hotline at 800-449-7587, and a collection kit comes before pickup day. The City's list of accepted items includes paint, pesticides, used motor oil and filters, and TVs and computers, while ammunition, gas cylinders, fire extinguishers and containers over five gallons are refused. Those items stay out of our roll-offs as well; here's what our trucks treat as a fire risk.
