*The price of a dumpster rental in Port Bolivar, TX is based on size, material, time, and distance within the region.
Port Bolivar sits at the western tip of the Bolivar Peninsula, a short ferry ride across Bolivar Roads from Galveston Island, the Handbook of Texas notes. There’s no city government here, so anyone can book with us: homeowners, rental owners, shops, restaurants and contractors. For remodels, move-outs and storm repairs we drop roll-offs from 20 up to 40 yards, and businesses that need steady pickup can have a 2 to 8-yard bin parked out back.

Hauling debris across Bolivar Roads
TxDOT has run the Galveston–Port Bolivar ferry since 1934, its vessel history says, and the first landing on this side sat at Fort Travis until it moved in the early 1950s. TxDOT lists today’s Bolivar landing at 123 SH 87; the crossing is toll-free and runs around the clock, weather permitting. Anyone hauling debris across on the ferry has to live with TxDOT’s rules for the route, which cap vehicles at 80,000 pounds, 65 feet long, 13.5 feet high and 8.5 feet wide. Those rules also bar hazardous materials, portable gas cans included, apart from propane tanks built into RVs and two spare fuel tanks on a trailered boat. In the high-traffic season, TxDOT warns, the wait to cross can run past two hours.
A roll-off at the job keeps the debris out of that line: our 40-yard takes about 12 pickup-truck loads, going by the figures on our Houston page. Propane doesn’t go in our containers either. It’s on Frontier’s list of truck-fire hazards, along with batteries, pool chemicals and wet paint.

From the 1900 storm to Frenchtown Road
The Point Bolivar Lighthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, and its nomination says the 117-foot iron tower, first lit on November 19, 1873, sheltered about 125 people through the Galveston hurricane of 1900. In 1915, the same nomination says, the sea forced the door open and filled the base with about four feet of water. A 17-foot seawall went up on the Gulf side of Fort Travis after the 1900 storm, the Handbook of Texas records, and Galveston County bought the old fort in 1973 for a public park.
High water still reaches this end of the peninsula. NOAA’s storm records note that on October 24, 2019, bay water running up at high tide made Frenchtown Road, near the ferry dock, impassable, and that heavy rain on September 29, 2018 left roads impassable from downtown Galveston across parts of the Port Bolivar area. When water gets inside, the wet flooring, drywall and cabinets come out; read about clearing out a beach house after high water.
Freight cars on barges, an ore dock in 1912
The Handbook of Texas counts Port Bolivar among the first ports established in Texas. A townsite company bought 2,978 acres in 1893 and gave the community its name, that entry says; the Gulf and Interstate Railway began running between Port Bolivar and Beaumont in 1896, with barges carrying freight cars across Bolivar Roads, and an ore dock was completed in 1912, it adds. Fish and seafood, lumber, cattle and hides have all been major local industries. A seafood kitchen or a shop near the water today can have a bin of 2 to 8 yards picked up anywhere from once to six times weekly, with lid locks available to keep out trash that isn’t yours; here’s our dumpster service for waterfront kitchens.

Port Bolivar dumpster rental questions
Does Port Bolivar have its own city government?
No. Run the ferry landing's address through the Census Bureau's geocoder and it comes back in Galveston County with no incorporated place, so County rules apply and no city holds a trash contract here. A homeowner, a rental owner, a shop or a contractor can set up service with us directly. Call (936) 258-9035.
How much room does a roll-off take on a Port Bolivar lot?
All three sizes share one footprint, 20 feet long by 8 feet wide, as the size cards above show; only the height changes, from 4 feet on the 20-yard to 6 feet 2 inches on the 30 and 7 feet 5 inches on the 40. You don't need to be home for delivery, Frontier's remodel page notes, but mark the spot so the driver knows where to set the container.
Do you work the rest of the peninsula, too?
Yes. Homes and job sites from Crystal Beach through Gilchrist to High Island can book with us as well, and our page on roll-offs from Crystal Beach to High Island covers that stretch. Call (936) 258-9035 with the address.
