How a Frontier drop works

  1. 1

    Tell us the job

What’s going in the container, and where it has to sit.

  2. 2

    Get the right size

Heavy debris like shingles and concrete goes in a smaller box. Bulky junk goes in a bigger one.

  3. 3

    We set it down

On firm, level ground with a clear approach for the truck.

  4. 4

    Call when it’s full

We haul it away and handle the disposal.

Part-time houses and Frontier's peninsula pickup

More than half the homes out here are part-time places. The 2020 Census counted 3,668 housing units in the Bolivar Peninsula census-designated place, and 2,106 of them were held for seasonal, recreational or occasional use, the Census Bureau’s category for part-time residences, beach houses and timeshares. Weekend owners and renters still fill trash cans, and Frontier runs pickup out here. Our household and business trash service on the peninsula includes twice-weekly residential collection, commercial accounts and a licensed collection station where customers can drop trash off themselves, and it works with homeowners, property managers, restaurants and homeowner associations.

A pile too big for the cart can go out as a bulk pickup, quoted from a photo you send, up to 10 cubic yards, that page says. Past that, a roll-off is the better fit: the 20-yard, the smallest size on this page, holds about six pickup-truck loads by our Houston page’s estimate. Here are the pickup-load counts for each roll-off size.

Beachfront jobs and the County's dune plan

Galveston County adopted its Dune Protection and Beach Access Plan on October 25, 2004, and on the peninsula the County’s permitting office takes the applications. Three parts of it shape a beachfront job:

When it applies. Building, clearing, filling or a substantial improvement within 1,000 feet of mean high tide, or seaward of the first public road if that line is farther, needs a beachfront construction certificate and dune protection permit, the General Land Office’s guide explains. The County reviews a peninsula application first, then sends it on to the Land Office.

Who handles the waste. The application has to include a statement that the applicant, owner or contractor will be responsible for removing the construction waste safely and properly.

What can’t be left behind. The plan rules out permits for work that deposits trash, waste or debris, concrete, stone and bricks included, that isn’t part of the permitted construction.

A roll-off on the street side of the house gives that waste one place to go.

One repair, or several at once?

In the unincorporated county, Galveston County’s Floodplain Permitting Department issues the permits, under floodplain rules the County adopted in April 1971, and the number of repairs matters. A new roof, new siding, replacement windows or a replacement deck needs no permit when it’s done on its own, the department’s FAQ says; when those repairs happen all at once, a repair permit is required. There’s no zoning out here and no certificate of occupancy. A finished project gets a Completion Certificate after the final inspection, a letter from the County’s Floodplain & Permitting Manager explains.

Whichever way the permit goes, the debris looks the same. Shingles and decking fit the 20 or 30-yard, since both cards list roofing, and a whole-house redo suits the 30, the card for home renovation projects. Here’s how our roofing containers for a beach-house re-roof work.

Flipped trailers in Crystal Beach, a 59 mph gust at High Island

Wind doesn’t wait for hurricane season here. On April 7, 2019, thunderstorm gusts estimated at 55 knots (about 63 mph) flipped travel trailers in Crystal Beach, NOAA’s storm records show, and on February 14, 2026, NOAA’s tides-and-water-levels station at High Island measured a 59 mph gust as a line of severe storms crossed Southeast Texas. The tropical systems bring water. Hurricane Laura came ashore in southwest Louisiana, but those records show its surge reaching this coast on August 26 and 27, 2020: tide gauges read 3 to 4 feet above mean higher high water, the Gulf-side beach eroded, and multiple roads closed on the peninsula and Galveston Island. Hurricane Nicholas followed on September 13, 2021 with tropical-storm-force winds, minor surge flooding and more beach erosion, the records add. Storm debris is printed on the 40-yard card.

Bolivar dumpster rental questions

On a beachfront lot, where does the container go?

Off the dunes, on hard, level ground. Driving any vehicle on a sand dune seaward of the dune protection line is a Class C misdemeanor under the Texas Transportation Code, a General Land Office notice posted with Galveston County's permit guides points out. Measure from the road before you book. Our Houston page sets the truck's minimums at 60 feet of approach and 21 feet of height, so an overhanging deck, a carport or a sagging service line can rule a spot out. If you're unsure, ask for a free site survey. Call (936) 258-9035.

Is any part of the Bolivar Peninsula inside a city?

No. Galveston County's permitting office lists the peninsula among the county's unincorporated areas, with addresses assigned by the Galveston Central Appraisal District, water from the Bolivar Peninsula Special Utility District and power from Entergy. So a homeowner, a rental owner, a business or a contractor books with us directly. Port Bolivar has a page of its own: roll-offs at the Port Bolivar end of the peninsula.

Do I need a County demolition permit to take down an old beach house?

No. Galveston County doesn't issue demolition permits, its Floodplain & Permitting Manager says in a letter the County posts with its development guidelines; permits come into play when a structure is built, placed, repaired or altered, and for dirt work. Near the Gulf, the dune plan's rules above still apply. For the teardown itself, demolition is on the 40-yard card.
