Dayton began as West Liberty, on a hill three miles west of the Trinity River, and took the name Day’s Town after landowner I. C. Day, the Handbook of Texas says. Frontier has run the City’s once-a-week cart routes since July 1, 2020, according to the City’s trash page, so the company emptying your cart can also bring a 20 to 40-yard roll-off for a remodel or cleanout, or a 2 to 8-yard bin for a Dayton business.

How a Frontier drop works

  1. 1

    Tell us the job

What’s going in the container, and where it has to sit.

  2. 2

    Get the right size

Heavy debris like shingles and concrete goes in a smaller box. Bulky junk goes in a bigger one.

  3. 3

    We set it down

On firm, level ground with a clear approach for the truck.

  4. 4

    Call when it’s full

We haul it away and handle the disposal.

Past the cart: Dayton's bulk day and building debris

Section 11.602 of Dayton’s code has the City, working through its hauler, collect the solid waste of every household and business in town at least once a week. For most homes that means the automated cart, which the City’s FAQ asks you to set at least 4 feet from mailboxes, cars and other carts; an occasional overflow can go out under pink tags ordered from Frontier. An old trash can marked “FOR DISPOSAL” waits for the Wednesday bulk trash day, and vegetative waste goes out on the bulky and brush days by request. The FAQ also rules out construction and demolition debris for either pickup, along with soil, dirt, rock and sand used as fill. Remodel and tear-out debris is roll-off work; a size guide measured in pickup-truck loads shows which box fits.

The Highway 321 underpass and the Trinity at Liberty

Dayton’s low spot turns up again and again in NOAA’s storm records:

May 19–20, 2000: NOAA records water 18 feet high at the SH 321 underpass and widespread street flooding in Dayton, while a co-op observer in Liberty measured 18.3 inches of rain in five hours.

October 31, 2015: the underpass at US 90 and FM 321 closed along with other Dayton streets, NOAA notes, and Liberty reported floodwater in six homes.

May 17, 2021: the TX-321 underpass in Dayton was impassable again, by NOAA’s account.

River flooding is a separate risk. The National Weather Service gauge on the Trinity River at Liberty crested at 32.37 feet on May 6, 2024, second only to its 32.70-foot record of September 1, 2017, and at 29 feet, the NWS says, homes in several subdivisions above Liberty begin to flood. Soaked drywall, flooring and furniture go in the 40-yard, the size our card lists for storm debris; see tear-out roll-offs for flooded homes.

Business trash inside Dayton runs through the City

Dayton’s code keeps business trash inside the City’s system. Section 11.603 bills every business entity for City solid waste collection, and Section 11.605 makes it unlawful for a property owner to pay anyone other than the City or its hauler to collect solid waste in town. The City’s trash page names Frontier as the City’s waste management supplier, so a shop, restaurant or office in Dayton sets up its bin with us. Sizes run from 2 yards to 8, with pickups up to six times weekly, and a lid lock or gravity bar lock keeps the bin for your own trash.

Highway 90 rezonings and a fast-growing county

The Census Bureau’s Vintage 2025 estimates put Dayton at 10,226 residents on July 1, 2025, up from 8,393 in the April 2020 base, and Liberty County at 121,364, up from 91,661. The City Council’s 2026 ordinances, as listed on Municode, show where the building is headed: about 65 acres at 4445 Highway 90 rezoned for industrial use and about 16 acres at Highway 90 and Stilson Road for general commercial on May 18, then 15.03 acres at 325 County Road 602 moved to suburban residential on June 24. Every new pad and subdivision leaves framing scraps, packaging and broken concrete to haul. Cleveland, also in Liberty County, grew from 7,449 to 9,936 in the same Census estimates, and Frontier collects its household trash as well; see Cleveland’s cart and bulk-day guide.

Dayton dumpster rental questions

Who handles questions about a Dayton trash cart?

Frontier does, at (936) 258-9035, and the City's FAQ asks callers to mention that they're Dayton residents. Billing and account questions go to the City of Dayton at 936-258-2642. Roll-offs and business bins book through that same Frontier number.

Where does hazardous waste go if it can't go in the cart?

Not out to the curb. Section 11.605(d) of Dayton's code makes it an offense to put hazardous waste in a container or set it out for collection; it belongs at a facility built to take it or at a collection event the City designates. Liberty County's Citizen Collection Center, open Wednesday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. according to the County flyer on the City's trash page, takes used oil, oil filters and batteries at no charge. Before you load a roll-off, read Frontier's guide to hazardous waste and truck fires.

Can I burn brush I clear from land outside Dayton?

Only under a narrow exception. TCEQ lists Liberty County in the Houston–Galveston–Brazoria ozone nonattainment area, and in such counties the state outdoor-burning rule that Liberty County posts allows on-site burning of land-clearing brush only when no practical alternative to burning exists. County burn bans come on top of that; the County Judge lifted one on December 1, 2025, after rains, on the Fire Marshal's recommendation. A 40-yard roll-off, the size our card lists for large landscaping, takes the brush instead.
