How to choose the right size of your
Dallas construction dumpster
At Frontier Waste Solutions, we have specialists to take good care of you and answer any questions you might have. We offer free site surveys to make sure that your site is equipped with the perfect-sized dumpster rental Dallas offers. When we arrive, we survey your site to ensure the placement is in a spot that’s safe and convenient for your needs as well as our drivers. Here are the specs on each construction dumpster rental in Dallas, TX:
The 20-yard dumpster is a popular choice because of its versatility to be matched with many different kinds of projects. When you’re deciding on the size of your container, you need to consider the size and nature of your project.
A 20-yard dumpster is perfect for roofing projects that require tearing off and disposing of asphalt shingles. It can also be suitable for single-room home renovations (such as a bedroom, kitchen, or bathroom). You can also use 20-yard roll-off containers for heavy brush and landscaping tear-outs.
What’s the capacity of a 20-Yard dumpster?
A 20-yard dumpster holds 20 cubic yards of waste. Another way of thinking about it is by saying it can hold about 6 pickup trucks worth of garbage or about 120 33-gallon trash bags.
The weight of the material you’re loading not only affects what size dumpster you receive but also affects how high the container can be filled. Typically a 20 yd roll-off is generally 3 to 5 tons or 6,000 to 10,000 pounds. This of course varies on the density and heaviness of the material you are throwing away.
20-yard dumpster dimensions
Our 20-yard construction dumpsters are approximately 20 feet long X 8 feet wide X 4 feet in height.
Our most available and demanded size container in the Dallas market is 30 cubic yards roll-off dumpster. A 30-yard dumpster is the next size up from the 20-yard container. A 30-yard construction dumpster is reserved for projects that generate construction and demolition debris. This includes new home construction, building demolitions, estate cleanouts and large renovations.
What’s the capacity of a 30-yard dumpster?
A 30-yard dumpster holds 30 cubic yards of waste. This is about the equivalent of 8 pickup trucks worth of garbage or 180 33-gallon trash bags. Remember this is volume only and the weight of your load also needs to be taken into account. There is a limit to how much you can fill a dumpster depending on the weight of your waste.
Think about 30 cubic yards of concrete compared to 30 cubic yards of dry brush. The weight of the container would be incredibly different.
Dimensions of a 30-yard roll-off container
Our 30-yard roll-off dumpsters are approximately 20 feet long X 8 feet wide X 6 feet 2 inches tall.
The 40-yard roll-offs are the largest roll-off containers available. They are perfect for large items, homes or buildings, new home construction and demolitions. If your project generates a massive amount of waste you may need the big daddy of roll-off containers: The 40-yard construction dumpster.
What’s the capacity of a 40-yard dumpster?
A 40-yard dumpster holds 40 cubic yards of waste. You can also picture the equivalent of about 240 33-gallon trash bags or 12 pickup trucks worth of garbage. Again, the weight of the material you’re loading will affect the height that you can fill your container.
Dimensions of a 40-yard roll-off dumpster
Our 40-yard roll-off dumpsters are 20 feet long X 8 feet wide X 7.5 feet tall

Ten cubic yards at the curb, then what?
Inside the city, the City of Dallas collects from single-family homes and duplexes, and its monthly brush and bulky pickup has firm limits. A pile that breaks them is billed at $60 per 5 cubic yards, according to the City. Here’s how that pickup stacks up against a roll-off:
| City brush and bulky pickup | Frontier roll-off | |
|---|---|---|
| Schedule | Once a month, set out Thursday to Sunday before your collection week | Delivery and pickup on the dates you choose |
| Volume | Up to 10 cubic yards, or 20 once a year if you call 311 ahead | 20, 30 or 40 cubic yards |
| Shingles and roofing | Not accepted | Accepted. The 20-yard is our size for asphalt-shingle tear-offs |
| Brick, concrete, building materials | Not accepted | Accepted. Heavy loads hit the weight limit before the box looks full |
| Work done by a contractor | The City says the contractor should dispose of it | Contractors and homeowners both rent from us |
Drywall from a kitchen gut and shingles from a re-roof belong in a container, not behind the curb line.
Pile too big for the curb?
Dallas storms on the record
The tornado that crossed north Dallas on the night of October 20, 2019 was rated EF3 by the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, with peak winds estimated at 140 mph over a 15.76-mile path. It formed in northwest Dallas near State Highway 348 and Luna Road, tore through businesses and homes around Harry Hines Boulevard and Walnut Hill Lane, and took the entire roof off a house on Northaven Road west of US 75. The Office of the State Climatologist’s May 2024 summary lists a 75 mph gust at Dallas Love Field on May 28, when a line of thunderstorms came down from Oklahoma. An emergency manager reported golf-ball-size hail in the city on March 25, 2025, according to the Weather Service’s preliminary storm reports.
Cleanup after days like those means shingles, fence boards and broken limbs, and the City’s curb pickup won’t take the roofing. Our 40-yard card names storm debris among its uses. To weigh it against the smaller boxes, see our container size guide.
Shingles, fence boards and limbs to clear?
How much does it cost to rent a dumpster in Dallas?
The short answer is that it depends on the nature and area of your project. Your price is determined by the transportation and disposal costs at the closest landfill in the market. Our specialists will need to know what you plan on loading into the container. We also need to estimate how heavy the haul will be, how long you plan on renting for and the duration of your project.
Our rates are extremely competitive and transparent, unlike some of our competition. It’s not uncommon for other companies to hit you with unannounced fees, surcharges and add-on’s until they bill you. We offer haul plus disposal rates as well as flat rates for our containers. It’s important to have a quick discussion on the details of your project before we quote you on roll away container rental services.
How to prepare for your container rental:
Choose the right location
The most ideal situation is to have your Dallas dumpster placed on a hard flat surface. This makes it easy to be delivered and easy to load on our truck once you’ve filled it up.
The area should be free of long hanging branches or wires that could potentially obstruct the delivery of an empty container or get in the way of hauling your waste away. The trucks we use to deliver and haul away your dumpster will need at least 60 feet to approach the delivery spot and 21 feet in clearance height.
Approvals first in Munger Place and the M Streets
Dallas’s historic neighborhoods add a review before work starts. In the City’s landmark districts, among them Munger Place, Swiss Avenue, Junius Heights and Winnetka Heights, a Certificate of Appropriateness has to be issued before any work can begin on a property. Taking a structure down is a separate application, a Certificate for Demolition or Removal that goes to the Landmark Commission. Conservation districts such as the M Streets, Lakewood and Kessler Park work another way: staff review a Work Review Form and plans on top of the regular building permit.
Get those sign-offs in hand before you book, so the container isn’t parked in the driveway while the paperwork catches up. Whole-house jobs point to the 30-yard, which carries large home renovation projects on its card. Our page on renovation debris removal walks through all three sizes for remodel work.
Chemicals go to Plano Road, not the roll-off
Hazardous waste and household cleaning fluids can’t go in a roll-off. Wet paint, pool chemicals and batteries can spark truck fires, which is why they’re on Frontier’s fire-safety list. Dallas residents can take paint, cleaners, pool chemicals and batteries to the Home Chemical Collection Center, 11234 Plano Road, free with proof of current address. The City lists its hours as Tuesday 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the second and fourth Saturday of each month, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The City’s list of what the center turns away includes business waste, construction debris, appliances and containers over 5 gallons.

Frequently Asked Questions
A roll-off dumpster is a container that’s delivered to you for a specified amount of time. These temporary dumpster rentals are commonly used for construction projects, home renovations, special events, and any project that requires a large dumpster for waste collection and disposal.
A temporary roll-off container is suitable for excessive garbage collection for the life of a project or event. If the amount of waste that accumulates is greater than what is allowed in a “bulk pickup” then choose the most affordable roll-off rental Dallas offers and call Frontier.
The options to choose from are the size of the container, the delivery date and the pickup date. You can also choose a compactor or smaller container from our commercial trash service for recurring waste disposal.
Short answer? Expect somewhere between $300 and $650 for most residential projects in the DFW area, with the exact number depending on the size you pick and how long you need it. A 10-yard bin (perfect for a bathroom reno or small garage cleanout) typically lands on the lower end. Go bigger—think 30 or 40 yards for a full-house clear-out or major construction job—and you’re closer to the upper end.
Here’s what actually moves the price:
- Dumpster size (10, 20, 30, or 40 yards)
- Rental length (most quotes assume 7–10 days)
- Debris weight — heavier loads like concrete, tile, or roofing shingles can bump the total
- Delivery address — some outlying DFW suburbs carry a small travel fee
At Frontier Waste Solutions, our Dallas pricing is flat-rate and upfront. No surprise “fuel surcharges” tacked on at the end—you get delivery, pickup, a set rental window, and a weight allowance baked into one number. Not sure what size fits your project? Give us a quick call and we’ll point you in the right direction.
Frontier is the exclusive waste management service provider for thousands of homes and businesses. We know exactly how to make the process for waste disposal as smooth as possible. We keep our rates highly competitive and accommodate our clients in every way possible to ensure a long-lasting partnership.
Depends on how much stuff you’ve got—and how much you value your weekend.
For a single pickup-truck load of junk? A dump run probably wins on raw dollars. Most North Texas transfer stations charge a $30–$50 minimum, plus per-ton fees beyond that. Easy math for a one-off.
But here’s where the numbers flip. If your project needs more than one trip (and renovations almost always do), the hidden costs stack up fast:
- Fuel and mileage on your truck
- Gate fees on every trip
- Wear and tear on your vehicle
- Your time — usually 2–3 hours per trip with loading, driving, unloading, and driving back
- A helper’s time (pizza and beer aren’t free)
We had a homeowner in Plano last year try to DIY a garage cleanout. Four trips in, he called and booked a 20-yarder. Said it would’ve saved him an entire Saturday if he’d started there.
Short version: one or two bags of trash? Dump run. Full renovation, roof tear-off, estate cleanout, or anything bigger than a couple of truck beds? A roll-off pays for itself.
Yep. Easily.
A 10-yard dumpster measures roughly 12 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 3.5 feet tall—plenty of room for a standard 7- or 8-foot sofa laid flat, with space to spare. Sectionals, recliners, love seats, futons—they all fit.
What you can usually pair with the couch in the same 10-yarder:
- A mattress and box spring
- A few chairs or a small dining set
- Bagged household junk and general clutter
- Light renovation debris from a room or two
Quick heads-up on what doesn’t go in: tires, paint, batteries, and hazardous chemicals are off-limits in pretty much every Texas landfill under TCEQ rules. If you’re not sure about an item, just ask when we deliver—easier than getting flagged at the transfer station.
Planning a furniture swap or a room refresh? A 10-yard roll-off is usually the sweet spot.
In the Dallas–Fort Worth market, a 10-yard dumpster for a 7-day rental generally runs $300 to $450, delivery and pickup included. The price swings based on where you are in the metroplex and what you’re tossing—shingles and concrete weigh more, so they can nudge the total up.
What you typically get for that rate:
- Drop-off at your driveway or job site
- A full week on-site (extensions available if you need extra days)
- A weight allowance of 1–2 tons, depending on the provider
- Pickup and disposal at a licensed Texas facility
At Frontier, our 10-yard weekly rate is flat and straightforward. No deposits, no hidden fees, no “oh by the way” charges after the fact. You book it, we drop it, you fill it, we haul it. Done.
Got a small bathroom remodel, a garage purge, or a yard cleanup on the calendar? This size almost always does the trick. Request a quote online or call our Dallas team—most orders go out within 24 hours.
Plan on the driveway or your lot. Dallas Public Works requires a traffic control permit whenever construction work closes a traffic lane or blocks a sidewalk or an alley. If there’s no room off the street, call Public Works at 214-948-4290 before you book the delivery.
The City does. Dallas collects household trash at single-family homes and duplexes, and it runs the monthly brush and bulky pickup as well. At your house, Frontier’s part is the roll-off you rent for a remodel, a cleanout or storm cleanup. In Cockrell Hill, which is surrounded by Dallas, and in Balch Springs and Seagoville, Frontier is the official hauler. Here are all the cities that contract with Frontier.
